GM Recalls Almost 60,000 Saturn Aura Vehicles for Gear Shift Defect
General Motors is recalling nearly 60,000 Saturn Aura midsize cars because the automatic shift levers can indicate the wrong gear leading drivers to believe the car is in park, when it is in fact in another gear. This can cause the car to roll away unexpectedly as drivers and passengers exit the vehicle. The car manufacturer says it has known about the problem, which has led to 28 crashes and four injuries, for more than two years.
Toyota Launches Massive Recalls After GM Controversy
On the heels of the General Motors GM controversy over its ignition-switch recall, Toyota announced in separate statements that it had found five types of safety hazards in some of its best-selling vehicles, including Corolla and Camry cars and the RAV4 sport-utility vehicle, and that it is recalling six million vehicles. However, Toyota said that it isn’t aware of any injuries or fatalities linked to the defects as of yet.
Odometer Fraud Costs American Consumers $1 Billion Annually
The National Traffic Highway Safety Administration said odometer fraud costs American consumers nearly $1 billion a year when they unknowingly pay more for a used car than it's worth. Consumers are best protected by getting a vehicle history to check for mileage discrepancies, among other issues, before spending any money on any used car.
