Driving Blind Issues with Range Rover Jaguar

Dec 13, 2017

If your vehicle’s instrument panel went blank, could you still safely drive it?

Now you see it, now you don’t. At least that’s what Jaguar Land Rover vehicle owners are saying about instrument clusters on certain Range Rovers, Range Rover Sports and Jaguar vehicles.

Range Rover and Jaguar defects attorneys have learned that nearly 30,000 vehicles are being recalled after an internal investigation “found the voltage to circuits could become unstable during periods of high temperatures…[causing] software to detect faults and then reset the instrument clusters” which would go blank during resetting for periods of at least seven seconds.

Reportedly, drivers are unable to see the vehicle’s speed or other vehicle functions while the instrument clusters are blank—though the vehicle remains drivable. While it may be unsettling to be temporarily “driving blind” while the instrument clusters go blank and reset, Land Rover Jaguar states that there haven’t been any reports of accidents or injuries related to the instrument cluster issues.

The recalls, beginning in December, 2017, will update the software. The Range Rover auto recall is number N124, while the Jaguar auto recall number is H056. The vehicles impacted by the recalls include:

  • 2017 Land Rover Range Rover
  • 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
  • 2017–2018 Jaguar XF
  • 2017–2018 Jaguar F–Pace
  • 2016–2017 Jaguar XJ
  • 2018 Jaguar XE

When a vehicle is recalled, the owner or lessee, is directed to bring the vehicle into the local dealership for service so the problem with the defective system or part can be repaired. There is no cost to the owner or lessee for the auto recall repair.
