2018 Jeep Compass is Way Off Course

Dec 18, 2017

Can two separate auto recalls for one car be issued simultaneously?

“Airbag recall”. Two of the most frightening words in the automotive world ever since the famous Takata airbag nightmare of past few years. But after a brief lull in airbag news, Fiat Chrysler defects attorneys say a different airbag problem is prompting a new and different airbag recall.

For a while, the auto recall world was dominated by the biggest recall in automotive history: the Takata airbag recall. In the end, millions of vehicles from nearly every major automotive manufacturer, were recalled over Takata-made air bags that could reportedly degrade over time and explode on minimal impact sending potentially deadly metal shrapnel-like shards throughout the vehicles’ cabins. Several people died from these airbag explosions.

In addition, because the Takata recall impacted many older vehicles—presumably because it took years for the airbag to degrade and become dangerous—it was difficult to notify the impacted vehicle’s current owners of the recall since the cars may have changed hands from the original owners many times over. This means many of these potential “time-bombs” are still be out there on the road.

Now another airbag recall is here.

The latest Jeep defects recall, is only limited to about 8,000 model year 2018 Jeep Compass SUVs, all of which were built between September 5 and November 19, 2017.

Reportedly, “a supplier may have manufactured the airbag modules with loose fasteners” that can “cause problems with airbag deployment” on the front passenger side of the affected vehicles. Owners are encouraged to avoid using the front passenger seats as a safety precaution until the recall repair is made.

Believe it or not, additional 2018 Jeep Compass SUVs are also being recalled for failed oil pumps. This recall involves a combination of about 350 model year 2018 Jeep Compass and Jeep Cherokee SUVs that “may have cracked oil pump housings”. The defect reportedly causes stalling.

Imagine the frustration the owner or lessee of a brand new 2018 vehicle must feel when learning of even one auto recall, let alone two. Recall repairs, while inconvenient, are done by an authorized dealer at no expense to the car owner or lessee and often resolve the problem.

But some new cars turn out to be “lemons”. And a lemon law attorney can help you if you’re stuck with one. A lemon is a new car, generally less than one or two years old with less than 12,000 or 24,000 miles, depending upon the state you live in, that is constantly in the repair shop for the same problem. In addition to being subject to an unreasonable number of repairs, the problem substantially impairs the use, value, or safety of the vehicle.

If you are found to be driving a lemon, you may be entitled to a new car, a full refund, or a cash settlement—especially with the right attorney at your side.
