Chevrolet Silverado

General Motors introduced the Chevrolet Silverado range of full-size pick-up trucks in 1999 as a successor to the Chevrolet C/K line. It is one of the best-selling vehicles on the US market today.

For the 2020 model year, the Silverado range consists of the 1500, 2500 HD or 3500 HD, which include eight trim levels. The range offers six engine options, 6, 8 or 10 speed automatic transmission, and two-wheel or four-wheel drive. The Silverado has a lot of similarities with the GMC Sierra but is the less luxurious and more affordable of the two. Its out-dated cabin design and poor quality of materials is often criticized.

Recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports numerous recalls and complaints relating to the Silverado. There are frequent recalls relating to defects with the brakes, including a recall of more than 20,000 Silverado and GMC Sierra 2020 trucks due to a brake caliper bolt that may break, and a recall of nearly 550,000 GM vehicles for problems with the electronic brake control software that required a second recall because the software continued to fail. 2014-2018 Silverados were recalled due to software errors leading to unintended activation of the driveline-protection system which causes unintended braking.

There have been widely reported problems related to vibrations in the 2014-2016 Silverados. Vehicle owners have repeatedly complained that the popular full-size pickups begin vibrating while traveling at speeds over 45 miles per hour. The problems have been attributed to the size of the cabin, support bars in the roof, as well as the tires.

Additionally, the Silverado has been the subject of a recall related to seat issues. Certain 2014 models with manual front seats failed to meet federal safety standards, moving when the vehicle is struck from behind during a collision.
