Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is a compact SUV that’s been sold in the US since 1997. It is built on the Honda Civic platform and from a size standpoint falls between Honda’s HR-V (smaller) and Passport (larger) in Honda’s SUV lineup.

The current fifth-generation CR-V was released as a 2017 model, but the model received a facelift for the 2020 model year. Honda sells nearly 400,000 CR-Vs each year in the US.

The compact crossover’s popularity is due in part to its powerful yet fuel-efficient 1.5 liter turbo engine; the vehicle, however, is not problem-free. According to Consumer Reports, Honda CRV drivers have complained about engine stalls, heating system failures, and other problems. In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received dozens of similar complaints.

The 2017-19 Honda CR-V models have experienced significant defects and repair issues, including:

  • Gasoline leaking into oil because of engine software issues
  • HVAC system failure
  • Navigation/entertainment system failure
  • Malfunctioning airbag and check engine warning lights

The 2017, 2018 and 2019 Honda CR-V has generated official recalls and numerous complaints filed with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

Abeel & Associates has successfully represented many owners of the current generation CR-Vs in Lemon Law claims who were struggling with repeated dealer service visits for these and other issues.

Recent model year CR-V are experiencing the following defects:
