Recent model year Range Rover are experiencing the following defects:
In March 2017, Jaguar Land Rover recalled certain 2016 Range Rovers because the frontal passenger airbag inflator initiator may fail to ignite during a crash, resulting in injuries to vehicle occupants.
This recall came on the heels of an earlier airbag related recall in January because the propellant in the airbag inflator may degrade over time. This could cause the inflator to rupture on deployment, sending metal shrapnel through the airbag that could result in serious injury or death of occupants. Dealers were instructed to replace the defective airbags.
In December 2016, certain model year 2016-2017 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles were recalled. The vehicles were equipped with seatbelt pretensioners that may not function properly in an accident, leaving occupants inadequately restrained and at an increased risk of injury. Land Rover agreed to inspect and replace the front seatbelt assembly.
In December 2016, Jaguar Land Rover recalled certain model-year 2016-2017 Range Rover Evoque SUVS because the front lower control-arm fasteners could fail, leading to a separation of the steering knuckle. This could adversely affect vehicle handling, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers were instructed to replace the hardware that connects the front lower control arm to the knuckle.
In October 2015, certain model-year 2014 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs were recalled because the second-row seatback may not latch properly. This could cause the seatbelt to not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury. Dealers were instructed to inspect the second-row seat mechanism and replace it as required.
