The Ford F-series pickup truck has held the title of best-selling vehicle in the US for almost four uninterrupted decades, and of best-selling truck for longer. It sold almost 900,000 units in the US in 2019. Ford Motor Company is ceasing production of all but two of its sedans in order to focus on pickup trucks like the F-series.
The F-250 is one of Ford’s Super Duty line up of heavy-duty pickup trucks with towing and hauling capabilities. It is available for the 2020 model year in six trim levels –XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited – with three powertrain options, including a diesel V8, and towing capabilities up to 20,000lbs.
F-250 owners have been overwhelmed with recalls for this popular truck. A NHTSA investigation into unintended tailgate opening resulted in the recall of over 250,000 Super Duty trucks (2017-2019 models) in December 2019. In the same month, over 500,000 Super Duty trucks were recalled due to seat belt pretensioners generating sparks during deployment, which can ignite combustible components in the B-pillar and cause a vehicle fire. A December 2018 recall relating to defective engine block heaters resulted in damage to some recalled and “repaired” vehicles, and had to be followed by an April 2019 recall of 327,000 F-Series trucks. The NHTSA receives complaints about the F-250 about everything from frozen door latches to exploding sunroofs and the infamous death wobble, which is already being reported in 2020 vehicles.
