The Chevrolet Trailblazer has made a comeback for 2021. The nameplate, TrailBlazer, was used by Chevrolet from 2002 to 2009 for a midsize SUV but has not been used in the US market in recent years. The all-new 2021 Trailblazer is a sub-compact SUV that slots between the Trax and the Equinox in the Chevrolet line-up.

The midsize TrailBlazer, available from 2002 to 2009, was based on the GMT360 pick-up truck platform. It was noisy and underpowered with a 4.2-liter I6 engine and sloppy brakes. It was eventually replaced by the Chevrolet Traverse.

The 2021 Trailblazer shares its drivetrain and other components with the Buick Encore GX. It has two turbocharged 3-cylinder engine choices. A 1.2-liter engine with CVT and FWD are standard on the L, LS and LT trim levels.  The Activ and RS trims come with a 1.3-liter engine with 9-speed automatic transmission and AWD. It seats up to 5 passengers but has flat- and split-fold seating to allow for various passenger/cargo combinations.

Time will tell how the new Trailblazer performs. It has just hit the US market and GM has already issued a recall relating to missing tire labelling on the Activ trim.
