The Ford Edge is a midsize crossover SUV that was first released in 2007 and now slots between the Escapeand the Explorer in the Ford family. Since 2015, it has consistently generated sales of approximately 130,000-140,000 units in the US.
The Edge is available for the 2020 model year in 5 trim levels – SE, SEL, ST-Line, Titanium and ST. It houses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 8-speed automatic transmission and FWD as standard, with a 2.7-liter V6 turbo engine and AWD offered on the sportier ST. The Edge is overall an average car. It has decent engine power and safety ratings but it lacks the comfort and quality interior finish that consumers expect in modern vehicles.
The Edge is also subject to numerous recalls and complaints. Common complaints include exploding sunroofs, leaking coolant that can require full engine replacement, and a variety of brake issues, from squealing noises to completely unresponsive brakes. The Edge has generated recalls for recent year models relating to defective airbags; loss of power steering assist; multiple recalls regarding a failing torque converter weld stud which can immobilize the vehicle; and seat belt webbing that may detach in the event of a crash (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019.)
