The Ford Transit van has dominated the full-size cargo van market since its first introduction to the US market in 2015, replacing the popular E-series van. The Transit is primarily a commercial vehicle produced in both passenger and cargo configurations. Ford also manufactures a smaller van, the Transit Connect, which straddles the commercial and passenger vehicle market, but is related to the Transit in name only. Ford has announced an electric Transit for the 2022 model year.

Despite its impressive sales figures, the Transit generates numerous complaints and recalls. In October 2019, over 300,000 vehicles were recalled due to a driveshaft coupling that is prone to fracture causing the vehicle to be immobilized or move inadvertently. Almost 400,000 vehicles were recalled in June 2017 for a similar problem, suggesting that Ford still has not found a permanent solution (2017 model recalls.) Multiple recalls were also necessary to address water entering the tow modules of 2015-2017 vehicles, corroding the wiring and leading to electrical malfunctions, the deployment of seatbelt pretensioner, and an increased risk of fire (2016 model recalls.) Owners complain about a variety of other problems with their Transit including a/c issues, premature brake wear and malfunctioning sensors.
