The Chevrolet Cruze is a compact car which was produced by General Motors from 2008 until 2019. As standard, it came in a four-door sedan but it was also available in some model years as a five-door hatchback and a station wagon. The Cruze was designed as an affordable, reliable, and versatile vehicle for the average car buyer. As market demand shifted to SUVs, General Motors trimmed its sedan line-up and the Cruze was discontinued.
The latest model Chevy Cruze housed a 1.4 liter, four-cylinder turbo engine with automatic or six-speed manual transmission. It had an updated infotainment system and was available with a full suite of driver assist safety features.
After poor reliability ratings for the first generation Cruze, Consumer Reports ranked the 2017 Cruze as the Best Compact Car of the year. J.D. Power ranked the Cruze second best compact car of 2019 (tied with the Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra.) The 2019 model also received a five star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Despite some decent ratings, the Chevy Cruze has its problems. Cruze owners complain of transmission issues and total engine failure. Some owners have completely lost power while driving at highway speeds. There are also reports of electrical problems such as defective window defrosters and malfunctioning infotainment systems.
