Expanded Ford Recall? Shut The Front Door!

Q:  What happens if a pawl spring tab breaks?

Although you may never have heard of a pawl spring tab or have had concerns yourself with the effects of one breaking before, you might want to take notice now. Especially if you own one of the Ford vehicles impacted by this recently expanded auto recall.

You see, the pawl spring tab plays a role in the proper closure of the car’s doors. If the potentially defective part breaks, the car doors could fly open while driving. At least one accident and three injuries from the faulty doors have reportedly been documented.

Upon the "request" of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”) Ford has again expanded the auto recall over the opening door issue to now include an estimated 2.4 million vehicles.

Vehicles subject to the latest recall include:

  • 2013 to 2015 Ford C-Max and Ford Escape
  • 2012 to 2015 Ford Focus
  • 2015 Ford Mustang and Lincoln MKC
  • 2014 to 2016 Ford Transit Connect.

Consumers have many legal avenues when it comes to dangerous or defective automobile purchases or leases including lemon law, breach of warranty and fraud cases.

Which action is appropriate will differ based on many factors which include the age and mileage of the car, type of problem, repair attempts, auto recalls, warranties, and much more. Several consumer laws may entitle you to compensatory damages including a new car, full refund, or cash settlement, again depending on your particular circumstances and the laws of the state where you live.

If you feel you may be driving a lemon, or think you may be the victim of consumer or dealer fraud, or are getting the runaround over an auto recall issue, an attorney skilled in lemon law breach of warranty and fraud cases can take on the frustrating process on your behalf and maximize your chances of recovering damages.
