Chevrolet Equinox Problems

Despite the fact that Chevrolet is an iconic brand under the General Motors (GM) flagship, numerous vehicles have been prone to defects and subject to recalls over the years, including the Chevrolet Equinox. Consumers have lodged numerous complaints over the Equinox concerning oil consumption, transmission problems, and airbag defects. If you own or lease a Chevrolet Equinox that has been in for repeated repairs or out of service for an extended period of time, you may have a lemon on your hands.

Timothy Abeel & Associates, P.C, is a first-rate lemon law firm serving clients in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. We have a proven track record of pursuing Chevrolet Lemon Law claims and helping our clients fight back against the big automakers. Well-versed in the applicable lemon laws and federal warranty law, we will work tirelessly to help you have your vehicle repaired, or, in the alternative, obtain a replacement vehicle or a refund. When you work with our legal team, you will have confidence knowing that dedicated advocates are fighting for your rights.

Chevy Equinox Oil Consumption Problems

Numerous Equinox drivers have long complained about excessive fuel consumption, the smell of smoke and gasoline in the passenger cabin, stalling and fuel pump failure. Although General Motors has yet to issue a recall, a technical service bulletin was issued in 2015, but it was limited to the 2011 Equinox. Meanwhile, oil consumption problems have dogged model year 2011-2107 Equinox vehicles.

Presently, a class action lawsuit has been filed against GM seeking compensation for unreasonably frequent oil changes, loss of the vehicle’s value and other losses. Whether the lawsuit will prevail is unclear, however, if your Chevrolet Equinox is experiencing excessive oil consumption, we can help.

Chevrolet Equinox Recalls

In addition, there have been a number of recalls issued for the Chevrolet Equinox since it was introduced in 2005. The most recent recalls include:

  • In May 2018, GM announced the recall of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox because the high-pressure fuel pump may detach from its mounting flange, possibly resulting in the pump damaging the high-pressure fuel line, which can create a fuel leak and cause a fire. Dealers have been instructed to replace the high-pressure fuel pump and high-pressure fuel pipe.
  • In April 2018, GM announced the recall 2018 Chevrolet Equinox vehicles because the driver and front passenger window glass may not be properly tempered, and fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 205, “Glazing Materials.” Improperly tempered glass can break into large pieces in a collision, increasing the risk of injury.  Dealers have been instructed to replace the glass in both front doors.
  • In August 2017, GM recalled the newly redesigned model year 2018 Equinox due to a driveshaft problem. The right front intermediate drive shaft may fracture and separate while driving, causing the vehicle to lose propulsion, increasing the risk of an accident, or a rollaway if the driveshaft separates while the vehicle is parked on a grade without its parking brake engaged. Dealers have been instructed to inspect and replace the right front intermediate drive shaft assembly as needed.

Numerous complaints that have not led to recalls of the Chevrolet Equinox include:

  • Drive Train
  • Electrical and Lights
  • Engine Problems
  • Exhaust and Emissions Problems
  • Heating and Air Conditioning Problems
  • Maintenance Problems
  • Suspension and Steering Problems
