Acura was first introduced to the U.S. market in 1986 as a luxury brand within the Honda group. Other automakers, such as Toyota and Nissan, soon followed suit with their own luxury offerings, which continue to compete in the U.S. luxury car market. Sales and customer satisfaction were impressive in the early years of the Acura when Acura was known for its reliability but recent years have seen a dip in its dependability and customer satisfaction ratings. The brand now has below average reliability and customers are becoming increasingly unhappy with their Acura. In a 2020 survey of American customer satisfaction in the auto market, Acura tied with Lincoln for the lowest score in the luxury segment.
